Simply accounting, password problem.

Question:

I was working on a simply accounting 2003 file in SA 2005, no problems. I wanted to not have to change to another directory when accessing the file for I copied the .SDB file to the 2005 dir and now when I try to open it I get a password prompt. I never had a password on this file.  I tried moving it back and it does the same thing. Any ideals?

Response:

Simply Accounting files always come in pairs, an .sdb file containing your data and an .sdw file containing security. These files must have exactly the same name and must be in the same directory. Deleting, moving or renaming the .sdw file will result in the password prompt. or If you shutdown or reboot the computer while Simply is open, you can damage the header on the main data file – this will lead to Simply asking for a password when there is none, or refusing to acknowledge your username/password combination. If this is the case, then you’ll have to get the database repaired.

"It is clear now that the United States is bogged down in an ongoing guerrilla war with almost daily casualties. The situation is one that the Administration did not plan for and is not adequately prepared to handle. "Assertions by the President, and his Administration, that the war is over and that our mission was accomplished, like their claims about Iraq’s ‘vast stockpiles’ of WMD’s, are false and misleading. While this Administration was quick to send troops into harm’s way, it has no exit strategy for removing US troops from the country. "Negotiations for an exit must begin now. The UN must take over management, accounting and distribution to the Iraqi people of Iraq’s oil profits. There must be no privatization of the Iraqi oil industry. The UN must handle the awarding of all contracts for the rebuilding of Iraq so that there can be no more sweetheart contracts for companies like Halliburton. Additionally, a transition from UN control to self-determined governing structure by and for the Iraqi people must be planned. "It was wrong to go into Iraq. It is wrong to stay in Iraq. Let’s support our troops by bringing them home." All of the names are anonymous except for the principals that have conspired to destroy a family. And I’m not going to bother to answer your baited question about caring for children

Sorry Quackmaster…I’m not convinced you are so "sympathetic to the plight of children"…your original post seemed to attack Mr. White and the judge and stated very little of the kids…rather…you seem more sympathetic for your sister.  You also seem to be filled with anger and hatred to Mr. White. Accountants Get More Headaches Than Other Workers

Question:

In conjunction with National Headache Awareness Week, June 3-9, Bristol-Myers Squibb Company, makers of Excedrin Headache-by-Profession Index, a survey to determine which professionals are most likely to suffer from headaches in the workplace. Accountants won the survey, logging the highest percent (49 percent) of workers who reported suffering weekday headaches. Next came librarians (43 percent), followed closely by bus and truck drivers (42 percent). <snip Accountants cited sloppy bookkeeping of disorganized clients as the main source of headaches. Question:

Which programs are best… and why ?? and if your in the mood, which are worst and why (interested in the low to mid-range package answers)

Response:

I don’t think any program can beat Visual AccountMate when it comes to Import. The program is written in FoxPro and all of the information is stored in FoxPro databases. These files can be read or update from any program that will read and write FoxPro files.  With ODBC this would include almost all of Microsoft’s products. The program also has a build in ability to import information from text files. In addition source code is available which allows modification of the build in import functions and/or development of custom import functions. — Myron Joy CPA       Joy & Associates P.C.       Phoenix Az Accountants and Information Technology Consultants. Batch importing is bad. Any business that has enough volume to need an interface to their accounting system is too big to run the separate systems out of synch. with regards to the customer list, balances in AP, AR, and sales and other data. Look for a realtime interface to the accounting system’s own modules for adding, editing and deleting accounting data.  That way you are sure you’re getting the data validation you need. There are many accounting systems with a COM interface and software development kits at a reasonable price, such as CYMA IV, Peachtree OFfice Accounting, Visual Accountmate, AFD accounting for Delphi, etc. There are also many more expensive ones such as Solomon, Adapta Accounts, etc. on up the line. A 2nd option is any accounting system that has at least the bare minimum of operability by command line interfaces, etc. to enable automation of the import process and verificcation of the batch totals.  Unfor. Peachtree doesn’t quite make it.  It’s close. But you will have continual glitches with the import if there isn’t careful preparation of your import batches. Basically you’d have to program a module to handle the import otherwise it would go astray fairly oftn.  The problem isnt’; that the problems are severe — the problem is they require somewhat of a computer geek on site to fix them.  With a compiled solution wired into the COM interface of the accounting sytem you don’t have that problem. You can walk away from it, without having it blow up later. nuffa this, Todd

Without knowing your specific details as far as budget, operating systems, single or multi-user requirements, etc it is difficult to provide an effective suggestion for the proper solution to your needs. As a general comment though, you may want to consider looking at "Integrated Office Accounting". This software is written in MS Access and integrates tightly with MS Office.  It has the ability to track serialized inventory, order entry, job costing.  The basic investment would be single user $1,495, Multi user $2,995 plus set up, installation and training.  The software is also available in source code version and can be customized relatively easily. Yes, the repubs are the ones who throw a race issue… and they do it to confuse and to lie… and to cheat… and to try and throw the race… Press Release: Race taints California Senate race By JOHN HOWARD Associated Press Writer SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) Republican Senate candidate Matt Fong has accused Democratic incumbent Barbara Boxer of trying to stir up ethnic animosity in one of the closest races in the country. Fong, a Chinese-American and the state treasurer, is angry about a TV ad that slams his position on lawsuits against health maintenance organizations. He says there should be caps on lawsuit judgments. The spot, paid for by the California Democrat Party, juxtaposes the words "Matt Fong" and "foreign diplomats" and claims Fong "wants laws that mean just about the only people in America who can’t be sued are foreign diplomats and HMOs." Fong also is upset about a leaked report by House Democrats raising questions about $100,000 in campaign donations he received from an Indonesian businessman. The ad began airing last week and news of the House report was first published Saturday in the San Jose Mercury News. Fong believes both were engineered by the Boxer campaign to hurt him as the campaign goes down to the wire. With polls showing the race a dead heat, California’s roughly 700,000 Asian-American voters could decide the election, which is considered a key GOP race in terms of giving Republicans a filibuster-proof 60 in the Senate. "She’s raising references about race and ethnicity that are very inappropriate. It’s very negative. It’s very shameful and despicable to try and distort my position," Fong said Wednesday. Boxer, whose mother was a first-generation Jewish immigrant, flatly rejected Fong’s allegations of racism and defended the ad, noting that the chairman of the state Democratic Party is Art Torres, who is Hispanic. "For Art Torres, who is a leader on civil rights, to put out any ad that hurt anybody is completely ludicrous. That HMO ad is factual," Boxer said. Privately, Democrats suggest Fong may be raising the issue himself in an attempt to galvanize Asian-Americans to vote on Nov. 3. Fong’s campaign has made a major effort to woo Asian-American voters, running TV ads in Mandarin and Cantonese. The unreleased House report, written by minority Democrats, cites discrepancies in Fong’s testimony to House and Senate investigators looking into international campaign contributions. In 1995, Fong received $100,000 in donations from businessman Ted Sioeng, who is barred by law from contributing to U.S. political campaigns because he is not a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident. Fong returned the money in 1997 after reports linking Sioeng to the Chinese government. Fong said his testimony was consistent and blamed Democrats for leaking the report days before the election. Boxer denied any involvement. "The Republicans released their part of the report, they are the ones who set the deadlines, and then the Democrats had to release the minority side," she said.
